Carfax Says Millions of Unrepaired Recalled Vehicles Sold Last Year
July 20, 2010
CENTREVILLE, Va. — Carfax attempted to pinpoint how many used vehicles went up for sale in 2009 that were part of a manufacturer recall but never repaired.
The vehicle history report provider revealed on Monday that at least 1.4 million used units fell into this category, according to a study Carfax conducted.
The study also indicated California, Virginia and Texas had the most vehicles for sale with open recalls last year. Each state had more than 100,000.
"Unrepaired open recalls are an important factor in vehicle evaluations," stated Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. "As many as one in three recalled vehicles go unfixed by their owners. It's a matter of safety — every day these cars are bought and sold and being driven on our roads.
"Carfax is working with leading manufacturers and consumer advocates to alert people to open recalls and make sure more of these are fixed," he added.
Unfortunately, CARFAX has not yet had BMW added to the brands that they can check for you.
Please call us with your car's title or registration in hand, because we will need part of the serial number, to tell you if there are any FREE repairs that you are entitled to.
Or just stop in and enjoy a cup of our STARBUCKS coffee while we check for any open work.
DON'T BE FOOLED !! IT IS OBVIOUS FROM THIS ARTICLE, THAT NOT ALL DEALERS PERFORM FREE RECALL OR SERVICE ACTION WORK WHILE YOUR CAR IS IN THE SHOP FOR OTHER WORK.
